Our winery was founded in 2004, after the reconstruction of our ancestors’ fields in 1999.
Our empirical knowledge of viticulture in combination with the experienced scientists’ assistance contributed to the creation of our first varieties of wine and our first awards in both local and international competitions.
Our winery is located in the village Kerasia of the municipality of Heraklion in an overgrown area of vineyards and olive trees. The wider area belongs to the Protected Designa tion of Origin (PDO) in Dafnes, where the variety of Liatiko prevails. The name of our winery “Efrosini” comes from the ancient Greek word “efreno”, which means delight, please someone. As our ancestors used to claim “wine makes glad the heart of man”.
Our local white varieties Vidiano, Malvasia di Candia and Assyrtiko, the red local varieties Kotsifali and Liatiko, such as the international varieties Cabernet Sauvignon, Syrah and Chardonnay are organically cultivated.
Antonis and Maria, owners of the winery, decided that year to vine the fields of their ancestors, which were already cultivated with vines of the Sultanina variety, for the production of raisins. Utilizing the viticulture knowledge they inherited from their grandparents, but also the valuable help of specialized and experienced scientists, they proceeded to restructure the privately owned vineyard, planting Greek and local grape varieties.
